Excavation works at “The Exchange” started last May, and then stopped, as no excavation works are permitted in the summer months in tourist areas. Works have now resumed on the 1st October after the summer recess. Appropriate measures were taken to support the foundations of Mercury House.
Built to the highest standards “The Exchange” will offer approximately 20,000 square metres of state of the art office space in a unique, vibrant and central location. ‘The Exchange’ will be complemented by a further 9,000 square metres of commercial and retail outlets surrounding a large Piazza and several other open or covered spaces each having their own distinct atmospheres.
‘The Exchange’ will generate additional economic activity in the area particularly during daytime. It will also serve as a much needed town centre for the St. Julians – Swieqi area.
The restored façade of Mercury House will give the feel of ‘Times Gone By’ and serve as a reminder of the pioneering communications technology once housed there. Today it will be the proud entrance to a modern Financial Centre supported by the latest communication technologies.
Excavation works are being carried out by Bonavia Brothers Co Ltd and J. Bonavia & Nephews Ltd.
