Education
Compulsory schooling in Malta starts at the age of five and ends at 16. Primary schooling, Classes 1-6 (5-10 years), follows two years at kindergarden (3-4 years). Secondary education starts at age 11 and consists of 5 years of study. Private and Church-run schools are also widely available. Vocational, technical and higher education-oriented schools are available. The University of Malta has a variety of courses available for the 18-year old students embarking on their first degree. Post-graduate studies are also available. The University welcomes applications from overseas students.
